Sourcing stock for your Depop shop

Updated

Source for the shop you are building, rather than buying whatever looks cheap in bulk. A useful first order is one you can describe, photograph and price for a clear customer.

Write a buying brief

Pick a focused mix and define it in garment terms. “Y2K” alone could mean baby tees, denim skirts, track jackets or modern pieces with a similar look.

Buying decision Example brief
Style and category Fitted graphic tees and denim mini skirts
Age Original 2000s where supported; modern pieces disclosed separately
Sizes A stated range, with measurements for fitted items
Condition No holes, broken closures or marks requiring specialist cleaning
Quantity 30 pieces total, with a confirmed split between categories
Budget A delivered total based on realistic resale prices

This is a sample brief, not an available Stockhouse lot. Adjust the mix to evidence from your own shop.

Choose how much control you need

Handpicking lets you select individual items. Counted bundles define quantity but can still vary in style. Weight-based bales need an estimated piece count and a plan for garments outside your niche.

Read bales vs boxes vs handpicking and compare US suppliers. Ask whether stock photos show a representative mix and whether the supplier can accept your exclusions.

Check whether the items are ready to list

An attractive wholesale photo does not replace garment details. Budget time for inspection, washing where appropriate, measurements and your own photos.

Depop's listing guidance covers entering photos, a description, category, condition, price and shipping. Check its current requirements before listing; this guide was reviewed October 28, 2026.

For fitted or altered clothing, tagged size alone may be insufficient. Describe measurements and visible flaws consistently. Avoid repeating a supplier's unsupported age or brand claims as fact.

Test the batch before scaling

Track pieces received, pieces ready to list, preparation time, delivered inventory cost, sales and remaining stock. Calculate the cost of the usable batch rather than dividing only by the supplier's headline count.

For example, a hypothetical $240 delivered order with 30 pieces costs $8 per piece received. If six do not fit your shop, the remaining 24 must absorb $10 each before preparation and selling costs. Use the pricing guide to decide whether that works.

Reorder after you have enough evidence to distinguish a repeatable category from one exceptional find. Keep the supplier brief and your inspection notes so you can request a comparable mix.

Send a clear sourcing request

I'm sourcing 30 pieces for a shop focused on fitted graphic tees and denim mini skirts. Please confirm the category split, size range, age mix, allowed flaws, photos and delivered price. I need the order ready to list by [date].

Stockhouse accepts sourcing requests while onboarding founding US sellers. Lots and purchases are not live yet. Its planned marketplace connects resellers with vetted domestic sellers; Stockhouse is independent of Depop.

Questions

Where can I buy vintage clothing to sell on Depop?
Options include thrift stores, estate sales, vintage warehouses and wholesale suppliers. Choose based on your shop's styles, usable piece cost and how much selection control you need. Stockhouse is accepting sourcing requests ahead of launch, with no live lots yet.
What vintage clothing sells best on Depop?
There is no dependable best category for every shop. Use your own completed sales, buyer questions and current comparable listings to choose a mix, then test a small batch before increasing your order.
Should a new reseller buy a large vintage bale?
Only if the mix, condition and processing workload fit the business. Choose an order you can inspect, prepare and list, and allow for pieces that will not suit your customers.
